Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill
The Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill was introduced by the Government on 30 January 2025. It confirms that this Government's aims concerning immigration and asylum are essentially the same as its predecessor.
This is dreadful. It will no doubt continue to cause harm to a great many people, many of whom fleeing war and persecution and others of whom victims of slavery and human trafficking. It can also be expected to aid the very criminal gangs that political leaders constantly announce their determination to 'smash'.
Sadly, the UK seems set to continue to waste large sums of taxpayers' money doing harm to people rather than addressing their real needs and rights. That can in turn be expected to lead to new or continued forms of administrative dysfunction and to complaints about human rights in distraction from the policies, and rhetoric, truly responsible for this dismal situation.
The latest Amnesty UK RMR briefing provides more information about the Bill.
