Urgent Action good news: Protester released after serving full sentence in Crimea
Crimean Tatar protestor Server Karametov was released from police custody in Simferopol, Crimea on 19 August after serving his full 10-day sentence. He was arrested on 8 August while engaging in a peaceful protest outside Crimea’s Supreme Court.
Urgent Action good news: Palestinian university professor released by Israeli authorities
University professor Ahmad Qatamesh was released from administrative detention by the Israeli authorities on 13 August. His three-month detention order was not renewed after it expired. He is now back home in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank with his family. Ahmad Qatamesh was a prisoner of conscience.

Urgent Action: Risk of excessive force against protestors in Guatemala
People peacefully protesting against a mining project in Casillas, Guatemala, and by-standers were tear gassed and dispersed by riot police on 22 June. There are concerns of further excessive use of force as police presence continues in the community.

On 12 June, Ofer Military Court, in the occupied West Bank near Ramallah, renewed the administrative detention order of Mohammad Faisal Abu Sakha for three months.

Opposition politician Adam Azim has been released after spending nearly a week in detention in Maldives. He was arrested and faced trumped up charges after criticizing the government in a TV interview.
Urgent Action update: Sentence confirmed on Saudi Arabian writer
Saudi Arabian writer Nazeer al-Majed was informed on 15 May that the Court of Appeal of the Specialized Criminal Court (SCC) in Riyadh has upheld his seven-year prison sentence. Nazeer al-Majed has been detained since 18 January solely for having peacefully exercised his right to freedom of expression. He is a prisoner of conscience.
Urgent Action update: Student activists on trial by military court in Thailand
Jatupat ‘Pai’ Boonpattararaksa and six other law students from Khon Kaen University are on trial at a military court for taking part in a peaceful demonstration on 22 May 2015, the first anniversary of a military coup in Thailand.
Urgent Action: Release Amnesty International Chair Taner Kılıç detained in Turkey
Chair of Amnesty International Turkey Taner Kılıç was detained on 6 June, wrongly accused of membership of the “Fethullahist Terrorist Organization”. On 9 June he has been remanded in pre-trial detention. The charges against him must be dropped and he must be released immediately and unconditionally.
Urgent Action: Turkish man detained and at risk of extradition in Thailand
Myanmar-based Turkish education professional, M. Furkan Sökmen was detained in Yangon International Airport on 24 May and last known to be in the transit area of a Bangkok airport. Amnesty International fears he is at risk of extradition to Turkey where he could face torture or ill-treatment.
