Telephone Fundraising

Telefundraising employee at Amnesty International on the phone

Who called me from AIUK?

Since 1961, Amnesty International UK has relied on the power of people coming together to champion human rights. Telephone fundraising helps us raise awareness and vital funds for our human rights work.

If you have agreed to hear from us by telephone, you may receive a call from Amnesty International UK staff members or from professional agencies who make calls on our behalf.

If you don’t want to hear from us by phone, you can change your preferences at any time. Contact our Supporter Communications Team at sct@amnesty.org.uk, fill out this form, or get in touch by post.

Frequently asked questions

How can I recognise an Amnesty International UK number?

Our fundraisers are likely to call you from 0203 725 0284 or 0117 325 4198.

We have a small team of fundraisers at the Human Rights Action Centre. They call from 0207 033 1710.

Who helps us fundraise?

We use professional fundraisers who are specialists in telephone fundraising.

All our in-house fundraisers and agency fundraisers have been thoroughly trained. We regularly monitor and review their calls to make sure they are delivering the best service.

We are committed to conducting this activity in line with our Fundraising Policy and the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice.

Telephone fundraising helps us contact thousands of supporters in a short space of time. When we work with an agency, we agree to the campaign cost in advance. They charge by connected call, not by results or commission. Telefundraising is a cost-effective way of fundraising and the money raised far exceeds the costs involved.

Why are you calling?

There are lots of reasons why you might receive a call from us. We might use our fundraisers to promote regular donations, ask you to increase your support during urgent campaigns, and encourage you to leave a gift in your Will.

If you already make regular donations to Amnesty International UK, it’s also a great opportunity for us to tell you about campaigns we’ve won with your support. Our callers would love to give you a personal update over the phone, even if you can’t give more right now.

How are my donations used?

We are committed to being as transparent and accountable as possible. You can learn more about the impact of your donations by reading about our finances and fundraising with integrity

How do I amend or cancel my Direct Debit if I sign up and change my mind?

You can cancel your Direct Debit through your bank. To adjust your amount, please email our Supporter Communications Team at sct@amnesty.org.uk and they will be able to help. We operate under The Direct Debit Guarantee.

How do you protect vulnerable people who want to donate?

Amnesty International UK and our agency partners have a Vulnerable Person’s Policy. If a gift is offered but the fundraiser suspects that the donor may be in potentially vulnerable circumstances, the call is thoroughly reviewed before the gift is accepted. If we do not feel it is appropriate to accept the donation, we will write to the individual. For more information, you can download our Vulnerable Person’s Policy.

How do I make a complaint?

If you have any feedback then please get in touch. If this is a complaint it will help any investigation if you can include:

  • Date and time of the incident
  • Your name and telephone number
  • Your supporter number if known (9-digit number on letters from AIUK)
  • Fundraiser’s name or phone number

Please email our Supporter Communications Team at sct@amnesty.org.uk.

To find out more about how we process and respond to feedback and complaints, please read our feedback policy and procedure document or contact us.
