Together, We Stood Up Against Injustice - we were part of a global campaign for Toomaj's freedom
We have incredible news to share: Toomaj Salehi, Iranian rapper and activist, is finally free. This is the power of collective action. Nearly 27,000 of you raised your voices, and together, we sent a clear message to Iranian authorities: The world is watching. Thank you.
Why This Matters
We all have the right to speak out against injustice and live without fear. Through his music, Toomaj gave voice to the Woman, Life, Freedom movement, sparked by the death of Mahsa Zhina Amini, a young woman who died in police custody for defying abusive forced veiling laws in Iran.
By calling for freedom and equality, Toomaj stood against a system that uses fear and violence to suppress dissent. His release shows that when we come together and focus on solutions, we can challenge injustice and create change.
What We Achieved Together
Your actions—signing petitions, sharing his story, and amplifying his voice—helped play a vital role in this outcome. You joined tens of thousands of others demanding justice and showed Iranian authorities that we won’t stay silent when human rights are at stake
How We Got Here
The Iranian authorities have long used the death penalty and imprisonment to silence dissent. In 2023, over 850 people were executed—a 48% increase from the previous year. Toomaj’s death sentence was overturned earlier this year, but he still faced false charges and remained in prison for over a year.
What’s Next?
Toomaj’s release is a powerful step, but there is more work to do. Thousands of others remain imprisoned or face persecution for standing up for what’s right.
Here’s how you can stay involved:
