Amnesty International: protecting individuals wherever justice, fairness, freedom and truth are denied.

Dear Local Group member,

Welcome to your April monthly mailing. This month's mailing includes:

HAKAMADA - BREAKING GOOD NEWS
Yesterday we heard from Japan that Hakamada Iwao has been released!! As you know Hakamada, 78, was sentenced to death in 1968 after an unfair trial and is believed to be the longest-serving death row inmate in the world. AI has been working on his case since 2008. We believe the Prosecution might still be able to appeal against the decision to grant a retrial however, so we'll continue ahead with our planned action - targeting the prosecution not to lodge an appeal against the decision. Things are moving quickly as we try to clarify exactly what is happening - Please look out for the action on our w ebsite.
