Newspaper editor Kyaw Min Swe remains in detention after a court in Yangon, Myanmar’s largest city, again rejected his request for bail.

Urgent Action: Activist and lawyer held at military facility in DRC

Jean-Marie Kalonji, an activist with the youth movement Quatrieme voie/ il est temps, was arrested by military security forces on Friday 23 June in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Urgent Action: Nigerian at risk of execution in Saudi Arabia

Nigerian national Suliamon Olufemi remains at risk of execution in Saudi Arabia. On 19 April, 11 of his co-defendants were released from prison and deported to Nigeria, having completed their 15-year sentences.

Urgent Action update: Ex-prisoners of conscience intimidated in Cuba

Three siblings sentenced to one-year of prison for allegedly leaving their house during the state morning following Fidel Castro´s death, are on hunger strike after being harassed and intimidated in Cuba since their conditional release in April.

Urgent Action good news: Kurdish activist in critical health released in Syria

Syrian Kurdish opposition activist Suleiman Abdulmajid Oussou was released on 24 June. He had been detained by the Asayish forces since 23 May. Suleiman Abdulmajid Oussou was held in poor conditions while suffering a critical heart condition.

A proposed law aimed at decriminalizing abortion under specific circumstances in Chile is facing possible amendments that would further restrict access to legal abortion and related sexual and reproductive health services for women and girls, putting their lives and well-being at risk.

Urgent Action update: Detained without charge since July 2016 cafe attack in Bangladesh

2 July 2017 marks the one year anniversary of Hasnat Karim’s arrest and detention. He was caught up in the attack on a restaurant in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka on 1 July 2016 and has been held in jail without charge since.

Urgent Action: Three media workers detained and charged in Myanmar

Three journalists have been detained and are facing up to three years in prison simply for peacefully carrying out their work in conflict-affected northern Shan State in Myanmar. They are prisoners of conscience who must be immediately and unconditionally released.
