Urgent Action update: Two siblings' trial date set for 19 September in UAE

On 27 June Amina ‘Abdouli and her brother Mos’ab ‘Abdouli appeared before the Supreme Federal Court in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The court set 19 September for their next trial hearing.

Urgent Action: Disclose fate and whereabouts of detained Ukrainian man

Oleksandr Dydovych was arbitrarily arrested on 17 December 2015. His wife was allowed to exchange letters with him until 16 April, while he was in the Security Service of Ukraine’s unofficial detention.

Urgent Action good news: Ukranian officer released, reunites with family

Ukrainian officer Ivan Bezyazykov was released from detention by the pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine on 5 July after spending more than 22 months in captivity and being subjected to torture and other ill-treatment.

Bahraini human rights defender Nabeel Rajab’s trial began on 12 July on charges of “spreading false rumours in times of war” and “insulting public authorities”. On the first day of the trial a new charge of “insulting a foreign country” was also levelled against him. His case has been adjourned to 2 August.

Urgent Action: Offices of Caceres case lawyers burglarized

The offices of Honduran organization Broad Movement for Justice and Dignity were burglarized on 13 July. The burglar stole computers with sensitive information on high-profile cases they represent, including the assassination of human rights defender Berta Cáceres. MADJ believes this incident is related to their work defending human rights.
